The country currently has around 500ha of production and has dipped its toe into the export market

Paraguay could become the latest country to join the growing list of global Hass avocado exporters. The results of trial exports suggest a promising future on the international markets.

According to a report in Diario Vanguardia, domestic demand is on the rise, driven by the fruit’s growing popularity and nutritional benefits. The country offers favourable conditions for its development, including fertile land, abundant water resources and a favourable climate.

“When we arrived, four years ago, avocado was hardly available in the market. Today we see how it is incorporated into salads and snacks. We want Paraguayans to know and value this fruit,” said Jorge Luis Palacios, CEO of avocado nursery Vivero Aguacate.

“We are the first avocado nursery in Paraguay to be certified by the National Service for Quality and Plant Health of Seeds.”

There are currently around 500ha of avocado plantings in Paraguay, the focus being on high-quality varieties like Hass, grafted onto rootstocks adapted to local conditions to guarantee the health and quality of the plants.
