The Spanish region of Murcia is expected to have a “positive” start to this year’s citrus campaign, both in terms of quality and quantity, according to regional fresh produce association Asaja Murcia.
Alfonso Gálvez Caravaca, general secretary of the association, said that if citrus producers send fruit to the market in a “rationalised way”, then the development of this season’s campaign is likely to be “very positive”.
Mr Gálvez also said the modernisation that Murcia’s citrus sector had undertaken in recent years and the investments it had made in research and development meant that the sector had “better possibilities for expansion”.
However, he added that more action was required to bring the sector together to carry out joint promotions, communications and marketing.
