Damco has announced the appointment of Erik Osinga as its new global head of fresh (refrigerated logistics), supporting the Damco retail vertical.
Osinga takes up his position after occupying roles within Damco as regional head of reefer in Europe and regional head of perishables in North America.
He joined Damco in 2009, with over 20 years of experience in the international food trade, working in Europe and the Americas. “Damco is market leader in retail logistics and is all set to maintain this position, supported by our fresh strategy,' explained Hans Elmegaard, global head of retail at Damco. 'We have a strong track record of finding smart solutions to the complex business needs of the retail sector. I am confident that Erik with his longstanding expertise of supply chain of food retail will help to lead our business forward.'
“Globally, retailers are recognising the value of direct sourcing of perishable food products,' adds Osinga. 'Our aim is to facilitate retailers to define and integrate their specific direct sourcing strategy in their business model. We have the structure and expertise to design and execute these critical supply chains. Supported by a strong team of local perishables logistics experts around the world, we strive to keep our organisation at the forefront of market and technology developments within the perishables sector.”
