The first commercial volumes will be available on the European market until the end of the year
Following two years of trials, Origine Group has launched its new red kiwifruit, Sweeki Red. The HFR18 variety is characterised by its intense sweetness, well-balanced tropical taste and intense green-red pulp.
Origine Group is the exclusive Italian license holder for the variety, which is managed by OKiwi. The company said this year’s crop has excellent quality characteristics, in terms of shape, colour and flavour.
The fruit is available in an environmentally friendly 40x30 honeycomb cardboard box and a 3-fruit cardboard tray.
“We are convinced that our product has all the salient characteristics of red-fleshed kiwifruit, starting with an excellent taste and a very intense colour compared to other varieties,” said Alessandro Zampagna, director of Origine Group.
“Our volume is still limited, but the investment plan will lead to a progressive increase. As the growing technique improves each year, we believe the performance of the red kiwifruit will attract other producers.”
Sweeki Red will be available in the Italian and European market until the end of the year.
Origine Group was founded in 2015 by a group of leading Italian and Chilean growers to develop innovative products and break into new and emerging markets. It is made up of Italy’s Apofruit, Frutta C2, Gran Frutta Zani, Kiwi Uno, Minguzzi, Salvi-Unacoa, Spreafico and Chile’s David Del Curto and Copefrut.
