The Oppenheimer Group has revealed that it has entered into its first exclusive Ontario greenhouse partnership, with two different growers, as it looks to improve service to customers in Canada and the eastern US.
According to the company, both Geo Produce and Platinum Produce Company joined Oppenheimer's portfolio of growers in March, boasting some 37 acres of coloured sweet bell peppers between them and 4.5 acres of tomatoes on-the-vine at Geo.
'Our excellent grower base has enabled us to build robust greenhouse programmes with customers throughout the US and Canada, though at times we've felt the absence of eastern Canadian production in our mix,' said chairman, president and CEO John Anderson.
'We've been looking for the right partners to complement our existing western Canadian, Californian and Mexican production,' he added. Geo Produce and Platinum Produce are a good fit because they have the same values as we do at Oppenheimer, like putting food safety first, and meeting high standards for quality and flavour.'
Oppenheimer will bring Ontario peppers and tomatoes on-the-vine to market in tandem with their new partners in early April, with all items bearing an Oppenheimer-branded PLU.
