Ocado

Ocado, the UK’s only pure-online grocery retailer, has announced that it has become the latest group to join the British Retail Consortium (BRC), the trade association for the UK retail industry.

The company delivered its first order in 2002, and in 2010/11 delivered an average 110,000 orders a week with annual sales of over £640million (€775m).

'As the UK's only online-only grocery retailer, Ocado represents an important and distinctive part of the sector,' said Stephen Robertson, BRC director general. 'I’m delighted Tim Steiner and his team recognise the value of BRC membership and have decided to join us.

'Certainly, there are many issues of common interest to Ocado and our other grocery members but I'm also pleased the company will benefit from, and be able to help us develop, our rapidly increasing activity around e-commerce and e-crime as well,' he added.

Tim Steiner, CEO of Ocado, noted: 'As we grow our range and proposition and continue to grow, we’ve joined the BRC for its expertise in the policy areas that affect our business and for the wealth of information and contacts that it provides.

'We’re looking forward to benefiting from the BRC’s knowledge, its campaigning on food and online retailing issues and its respected raft of retail industry data.'
