The first consignment of new crop Enza-branded Cox Orange Pippin apples are due to arrive in Europe this week, heralding the beginning of the 2014 season. Enzafruit said the first containers are due to arrive in Antwerp by 11 April. They will also contain Doyenné du Comice pears.
The marketer said growing conditions in New Zealand have been favourable, with sufficient sunny days and cool nights to provide high quality fruit with good coloration, taste and size profile.
Turners & Growers has forecast strong global demand for New Zealand pipfruit this season, with 90,000 tonnes of Enza apples expected to be exported over the next eight months. The New Zealand firm’s CEO Alastair Hulbert said a good growing season, consistent product quality and ongoing investment in technology have been keys to the positive season outlook.
