Seal given to products that have been tested in laboratories specialising in sensory analysis by consumers

Nufri’s Envy apple has been awarded the Sabor del Año (Taste of the Year) seal for Spain and Portugal for the second consecutive year. Its Opal club apple has scooped the award for the first time.

Envy obtained an overall satisfaction of 8.91 in the blind tastings carried out by consumers, a score obtained from the average of values that is given for appearance, smell, flavour and texture (consistency).

The testers gave the apple a score of 9.07 for taste, with 88 per cent of them saying they would buy the variety. Opal received a score of 8.94 for general satisfaction and 9.01 for taste, with 94 per cent of consumers stating that they would buy it.

The Taste of the Year quality award was created by the French company Monadia 30 years ago and is represented in Spain by the Global Quality group. It is recognised in countries such as France, Portugal, Belgium, Tunisia, Morocco and Mexico, where it has earned the trust of consumers, manufacturers, professionals and distributors in the sector.

Nufri said the awards would boost its brand image, both for Envy and Opal, and reinforce their positioning in the sector.

Envy apples are produced in La Rasa (Soria, where the microclimate and soil conditions are ideal for its cultivation. Nufri said it is cultivated with respect for the environment and the surroundings, following the guidelines of integrated production agriculture. “In short, a set of factors that come together to obtain a quality apple with high nutritional potential,” the company said.

Nufri’s Opal apples are grown in Lleida, “an ideal location for its development with the aim of obtaining the optimal product for the consumer”.
