The latest report on the spread of the vine-killing disease Psa-V continues to make fairly grim reading for the New Zealand kiwifruit industry.

The 26 September update from Kiwifruit Vine Health (KVH) - the organisation created to help minimise the impact of the disease while formulating the industry's strategic response to it - showed that three new orchards had been identified with Psa-V in the past week, all in the Wanganui/Horowhenua region.

It follows the announcement last week of the first discovery of Psa-V in that region.

KVH statistics showed that there are now 2,265 orchards in the country now identified with Psa-V, with 10,409ha of orchards with the disease confirmed.

Some 69 per cent of allorchards now have Psa-V identified, be that either the whole area of part of an orchard.
