The US Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) has launched a new dedicated website for the plants and plant products, including fruits and vegetables, which are being considered for access to the US market.

The so-called Plant Protection and Quarantine website comes in response to calls for greater transparency, public access and information about the import approval process, according to a press release from APHIS.

“Our stakeholders have expressed an interest in knowing more about the commodity import approval process and participating at an earlier stage in the development of risk assessments as they are being drafted,” the agency said in its press release.

The website will describe each major step in the commodity import approval process from start to finish.
