Damco has announced that it has moved to promote Marc Heeren, its current senior director for supply chain development, to the new position of vice-president of strategic sales for North America.

According to the leading logistics group, Mr Heeren will assume his new role on 1 January 2011, based in Damco's North American head office in Madison, New Jersey, in the US.

Mr Heeren joined the A.P. Møller-Maersk Group in 2005, and has a broad and international background within the logistics and supply chain management industry, according to Damco.

'Marc brings with him extensive experience in building and driving strategy and has contributed to many important projects globally,' said Mark Michaels, chief commercial officer for Damco North America. 'His ability to define global strategies, obtain buy-in for this and then operationalise the delivery will be instrumental as we build and drive our strategic sales strategy and results in North America.'

And Mr Heeren added that he was looking forward to moving into his new role: 'Damco's uncompromised commitment to bringing value to clients supported by a number of refreshing value propositions we recently launched, make taking this role an exciting new opportunity for me. Together with our highly energised colleagues, both here and overseas, I am confident we have a promising opportunity to positively impact our customers' business and in the meantime grow our own.'
