Belgian fresh produce auction Veiling Haspengouw and German fruit supplier BayWa have responded to recent growth in the volume of Conference pear production in Belgium by establishing a new packhouse for pears in the town of St Truiden.
The companies have reportedly invested some €8.5m in the new H-Pack facility, which covers a total area of 1,500m2 and includes 16 individual sorting lines.
The sorting and packing station is also understood to be fully certified according to HACCP, BRS, IFS and QS standards.
Since the early 1990s, Veiling Haspengouw and BayWa have worked in close cooperation to market and distribute fruit, founding the European Fruit Cooperation with Dutch group Royal Fruitmasters in 2002.
