Fall Creek and Sekoya varieties account for almost half of the country’s export acreage

Sekoya Pop is the third most planted variety for export

Nine varieties make up 80 per cent of Peru’s blueberry export production according to industry association Proarándanos. These are: Ventura, Biloxi, Sekoya Pop, Rocío, Mágica, Atlasblue, Emerald, Rosita and Sekoya Beauty.

Data reported by Agragria reveals that there are 20,490ha under production for the 2024/25 campaign. Ventura leads the pack with 5,355ha, followed by Biloxi with 3,216ha, Sekoya Pop with 2,966ha, Rocío with 1,326ha, Mágica with 1,039ha, Atlasblue with 836 ha, Emerald with 819 ha and Rosita with 521 ha.

This group is followed by Sekoya Beauty with 465ha, Raymi with 386ha, Eureka Sunrise with 346ha, Biancablue with 322ha, Madeira with 275ha, Kirra with 256ha, Imperial with 225ha, Kestrel with 193ha and Araya with 189ha.

A breakdown of acreage by genetic programme shows that Fall Creek leads with 6,599ha, equivalent to a 32 per cent share of total exports. It is followed by Sekoya with 3,431ha (17 per cent), open varieties with 3,218ha (16 per cent), Hortifrut with 1,704ha (8 per cent), Driscolls with 1,618ha (8 per cent), Ozblu with 1,188ha (6 per cent), Florida University with 1,123ha (5 per cent), Mbo with 718ha (4 per cent), Planasa with 445ha (2 per cent), and finally Inka’s Berries and Iq Berries with smaller quantities.
