Equal Exchange fairtrade bananas

Equal Exchange has kicked off Banana Month, an initiative running throughout March to raise awareness about their fairtade banana supply chain, with the launch of a new documentary highlighting how the movement is helping to transform some of the world’s poorest communities.

“This March is even more special as it marks Equal Exchange’s tenth year in the banana trade and 30th year as an organisation and to celebrate, we are promoting a new web documentary called Beyond the Seal,” explains vice president Jessica Jones-Hughes.

“It is a creative, intriguing piece that boldly portrays the story of a group of small farmers – and the activists and visionaries behind them – striving to change the banana industry as we know it.”

The documentary, which was filmed by Leah Varjacques and Katherine Nagasawa, can be viewed at www.beyondtheseal.com.

For the past 30 years, Equal Exchange has built an alternative model of trade that directly links small-scale farmer cooperatives and consumers through long-term, fair trade partnerships.
