The value of trade in fresh fruit and vegetables to and from the Netherlands fell during the first ten months of last year compared with the corresponding period of 2008, new figures published by the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) have revealed.

According to the report, the total value of the country's fresh produce exports slipped 5.2 per cent to €9.44bn between January and October 2010, from €9.96bn during the same period of the previous year.

Fresh fruit and vegetable imports, meanwhile, also fell, down 5.5 per cent to €5.66bn compared with the €5.99bn purchased in January-October 2008.

The Netherlands' overall agricultural exports were 6.5 per cent lower in the first three quarters of 2009 at €44.6bn, CBS revealed.

The value of agricultural imports decreased even more sharply, by 9.6 per cent.
