Following the departure announcement of Walmart’s chief marketing officer (CMO), Tony Rogers, last month, two new appointments have been made.
Former 20-year veteran of American Express, Janey Whiteside, will join Walmart on 1 August in the newly created role of chief customer officer. Barbara Messing, current CMO of TripAdvisor, will join Whiteside as CMO of Walmart in mid-August.
AdAge reported that Whiteside will be based in Walmart’s Hoboken office, and Messing at the company’s Bentonville global headquarters in Arkansas.
Messing comes onboard with a wealth of experience, having helped lead TripAdvisor from its media-only past to a booking service and travel e-commerce competitor. She will be involved in the marketing of Walmart’s stores, as well as its California-based e-commerce operations.
Whiteside’s new role will explore the customer journey and find ways to engage new customers, as well as improve the shopping experience.
Rogers will be moving to the company’s Sam’s Club division in late July, taking on the newly created role of chief customer officer.
