New reports in the US have suggested that the launch of the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market has been delayed once more, with business expected to commence on 15 May.
The facility, which was initially set to open last year, was then slated for a 1 May launch, according to The Packer, although market wholesalers told the publication that the opening had not materialised.
'We're as much in limbo as everyone else on the market,' Chip Wiechec of Hunter Bros Inc told The Packer. 'Maybe the board of directors knows (the start date) but I haven't been able to get anyone to call me back. I haven't officially heard anything. Last I heard, we were still supposed to be moved on May 1, but here we are. I hope we move shortly.'
Construction delays prevented the 667,000ft2 market from opening last year, and then refrigeration issues caused further delays this year.
