The Delaware Senate has confirmed in a press release that Alan B. Levin, director of the Delaware Economic Development Office, will assume the new role of chairman of the Diamond State Port Corporation’s (DSPC) Board of Directors.

Established in 1995 by the State of Delaware, the DSPC owns and operates the Port of Wilmington, Delaware. The Port of Wilmington is the world’s largest banana port and serves as the leading gateway for imports of fresh fruit and juice concentrates into the US.

“We are very pleased that Governor Markell has appointed Director Levin as the new
chairman of the Diamond State Port Corporation to serve in this extremely important
position,” said DSPC executive director, Eugene R. Bailey.

“Chairman Levin is a highly respected businessman and leader. Delaware’s port and its business community will directly benefit from the leadership and business acumen of our new chairman. His counsel will be invaluable for the future development of the Port of Wilmington and for international trade through our State,” added Mr Bailey.

In December 2008, Mr Levin was nominated by then Delaware Governor-elect Jack Markell to serve as the director of economic development where he now serves as a secretary in the Governor’s cabinet responsible for the business and economic strategies for the State of Delaware.

Previously, Mr Levin served as president, CEO and majority owner of Happy Harry’s, the 10th largest drugstore chain in the US, until it was acquired by the Walgreen Company in July, 2006.
