Vicente Trius Wal-Mart

US-based retail giant Wal-Mart has announced that Vicente Trius will take over as the new executive vice-president, president and chief executive officer of Wal-Mart Latin America on 6 July.

Mr Trius, who has spent the past year heading up the group's Asian operation, led Wal-Mart Brazil for 11 years before taking up the post.

'I have really enjoyed my time at Wal-Mart Asia and want to thank allof our associates, suppliers and partners who have contributed tobuilding such a successful operation in China, Japan and India,' said MrTrius. 'I have learned so much from this fantastic experience and amlooking forward to sharing these experiences with the Latin Americateam.'

Wal-Mart International president and CEO Doug McMillan said that Mr Trius's experience in Brazil and knowledge of emerging markets made him an ideal candidate for the position.

'In addition, his contributions to Wal-Mart Asia with stores in China,Japan and India have positioned Wal-Mart for strong growth in theregion,' Mr McMillon added.

Wal-Mart boasts a considerable presence in Latin America with over 325,000 associates and retail outlets covering Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico.
