Italian producer-marketing organisation Ortofruit Italia is joining forces with south-west French fruit grower group Sofruileg to develop European production of and the Italian market for Sofruileg's Nergi kiwiberries.
The new alliance will add a further 500ha to European Nergi plantings and means that, over the next five years, more than 60m 125g-packs of Nergi will be available in Europe between September and December each year, according to Sofruileg marketing manager Jean-Pierre Caruel.
Sofruileg said that from now on, development of European Nergi sales will rely on three commercial partners: Fruitworld in the Netherlands, Primland in France and now Ortofruit Italia in Italy.
Sofruileg will continue to coordinate all marketing efforts on behalf of all commercial partners.
