Ralf Hörstgen, former key account management director at Univeg Germany, has been appointed as the new commercial director of Fresh Del Monte Germany. A spokesperson for the Hamburg-based group welcomed the appointment and praised Hörstgen’s broad knowledge of the European and international fresh fruit and vegetable business.
David Lloyd has left his position as managing director at UK-based supplier Mack Multiples, to be replaced by former Sainsbury’s fresh produce buyer Nigel Trood.
Dole Fresh Fruit Europe has appointed Thomas Landwehr as its quality manager for northern Europe. According to the company, Landwehr has more than 20 years’ experience of working in the fresh fruit and vegetable business.
Robert Johnston, chief strategy officer with the InterTech Group in California, has joined the board of Ireland-based tropical fruit importer Fyffes. Johnston was previously president and chief executive at The Hudson Bay Company, Canada’s largest multi-line retailer.
Spanish citrus promotion body Intercitrus has unaimously elected José Martínez as president. Martínez, who represents the citrus management committee, takes on the role for the 2012/13 season from Felipe Juan.
Isaac Bon, managing director of Chilean fruit grower-exporter Compañía Frutera del Norte (CFN), was due to hand over the company reins to production manager Germán Marín on 1 September, when cfn’s offices moved to Coquimbo, just north of Santiago.
Rafael Llerena senior, a prominent player in the reefer shipping sector and known to many in the fresh produce trade, passed away in July. Father of Rafael Llerena, CEO of Spanish perishables logistics group Easyfresh, he helped to expand the trade in citrus from Spain to other parts of Europe.
