Danish businessman Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller, who successfully helmed his family’s shipping company for almost 40 years, passed away on 16 April at the age of 98. Mc-Kinney Møller is credited with overseeing the company’s growth to become one of the world’s largest shipping lines with over 100,000 employees, and subsidiaries and offices in 135 countries.
Adrian Barlow has announced in a statement that he will not stand for re-election as the vice-president of the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC) at the organisation’s AGM in June, after deeming the potential commitment required to serve a further year as vice-president and a possible three years as president to be unworkable. He was only able to commit to the role until 2015 and not the required 2016.
Zespri’s deputy chairman Peter McBride has been cleared of allegations he was connected to illegal grafting of a new kiwifruit variety by his brother, Murray McBride. Murray was found to have illegally grafted the new G3, or Gold3, variety, which is subject to licence restrictions. Judge and mediator Sir Peter Trapski cleared Peter of the accusations.
The first World Ports and Trade Summit World Ports Award has been handed to Eddy Bruyninckx, ceo of the Port of Antwerp in Belgium, in recognition of the job he has done over a period of 20 years in the fields of business development, port organisation, sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
Hamburg Süd has announced that deputy chairman Joachim Konrad has retired. Peter Frederiksen and Frank Smet have succeeded him.
Christel Teyssèdre has been named as the new president of the UNFD, France’s national greengrocers association.
Turners & Growers has made several new appointments. BayWa’s CFO Andreas Helber has joined the board, with CEO Klaus Josef Lutz stepping in as chairman, replacing Rob Campbell. The company has also appointed Sir John Anderson and John Wilson as independent directors, and Geoff Hipkins to replace former CEO Jeff Wesley.
