Shlomo Tirosh, CEO of Agrexco, Israel’s leading company for marketing fresh produce, has announced that he is resigning from his post after 16 years in the role. Agrexco said that it respected the decision made by Mr Tirosh, and thanked him for his years of service to the agricultural sector. A committee has been formed to find a replacement, and Mr Tirosh will remain in office until they have been appointed.
Sir Terry Leahy, CEO of retail giant Tesco, is to step down next March after 14 years in the job, having achieved his ambitions of turning Tesco into the UK’s largest supermarket chain. He will reportedly be replaced by the group’s international director, Philip Clarke, who has driven Tesco’s expansion in Europe and Asia.
Meanwhile, Tesco has also confirmed the shock departure of its fresh foods commercial director, Colin Holmes, just after it was announced that Mr Leahy would be stepping down.
Gerry Kelman, manager of vertically integrated marketing at Israeli vegetable varietal developer Zeraim Gedera, retires today (8 July).
Cees den Hollander has been named by Dutch export association Frugi Venta as its sole candidate for the role of chairman, following the recent departure of former incumbent Wim Tacken. Mr Den Hollander is a former director of Dutch fresh produce cooperative The Greenery and currently a member of the board of fruit and vegetable marketer Terra Natura International.
European fresh produce industry association Freshfel Europe reappointed Ramon Rey for a second term as its president during its annual general meeting on 3 June in Brussels, Belgium.
Rewe has announced it has extended the contract of its chief executive officer, Alain Caparros, by a further five years, meaning he will now head up the group until 2016.
