Morrisons has announced that it has renewed its contract with logistics and transport company Norbert Dentressangle (ND) for a further two years, for the management and handling of ambient groceries and fresh produce among other foodstuffs.

The new contract involves the operation of a 575,000ft2 composite distribution centre at Bellshill and Eurocentral, an 85,000ft2 fresh produce distribution centre, both on the outskirts of Glasgow.

As well as managing the grocery lines, there is a road-going fleet servicing Scottish stores and supplying frozen goods to a number of stores in northern England, and an on-site resource recovery unit to collect plastic and cardboard for recycling, helping Morrisons achieve its environmental targets.

Going forward, ND said that it will continue to work closely with Morrisons to support its continued expansion and penetration of the UK market.

'We are pleased to be able to extend the commercial arrangements for a further two years and feel confident that Norbert Dentressangle will continue to provide good value for money,' said Chris Noone, distribution director for Morrisons. 'They have been able to demonstrate that we can continue to receive excellent service levels and measurable cost savings, as well as working with us in a strategic capacity as we continue to evolve our supply chain to further underpin our core values of freshness, value and service.'
