Dubai’s Jebel Ali export terminal, in the United Arab Emirates, was reopened today after being forced to close on Sunday due to bad weather conditions.

Jebel Dhanna terminal, in Abu Dhabi, has been closed since Friday, with shipping companies reporting sandstorms and high sea swells.

However, Faisal Altaf, of Dubai-based fresh produce marketer Altaf & Khammas Trading, told Fruitnet.com that weather conditions are the least of the problems at the port.

“There have been terrible issues at the port,” he said. “Service is always on and off, with continuous problems due to berthing space. I suppose the recession is something of a blessing in disguise. We’ve had delays of four days recently, so one day’s closure won’t really make a difference.”
