Peruvian blueberry exports to the UK reached US$3.54m in the first quarter of 2016, an increase of 156.6 per cent on the same period of last year, according to the Peruvian trade office in London (OCEX). In volume terms, this equates to an increase from 222 tonnes to 550 tonnes.
The UK is one of the fastest growing markets in Europe for fresh blueberries. Research from Kantar Worldpanel shows that it grew by 25 per cent in 2015 to US$355m.
According to Rabobank fresh blueberry, raspberry and blackberry consumption for the whole of the European Union is expected to grow by at least 7 per cent a year in the coming five years.
