US West Coast port operations may apparently grind to a halt on 12 December as a result of ongoing demonstrations across the US.

The Occupy Los Angeles movement has threatened to block all seaports on the West Coast next month with plans to march on the Port of Los Angeles and shut down SSA terminals, owned by Goldman Sachs, according to a report by Port Strategy.

The Port of Los Angeles has said it is prepared to deal with possible blockades.

“The Port of Los Angeles is monitoring the possibility of marches and/or demonstrators at West Coast seaports. Los Angeles Port Police are in close contact with other local and regional law enforcement agencies and monitoring developments,” explained spokesperson Phillip Sanfield.

Earlier this month demonstrators marched on the Port of Oakland causing the facility to close.

Both the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Oakland are major West Coast hub for imports and exports of fresh fruits and vegetables, among other items.
