Pear collecting US

Kevin Moffitt has been handed the role of chairman of the United States Agricultural Export Development Council (USAEDC), the group that facilitates communications between its members – mainly Market Access Programme participants – and the Foreign Agricultural Service.

Mr Moffitt, the chairman and chief executive officer of Pear Bureau Northwest, had held the role of vice-chairman since 2007, and was designated as chairman for a two-year term at a board meeting on 19 November 2009.

In his role, he will represent the partnership between all groups andtheir growers, processors and exporters and the FAS with the joint goalof expanding market opportunities for US agricultural products acrossthe globe.

'The members of this organisation share a common goal of expanding US agricultural exports, and I look forward to helping advance that mission by bridging communication between fellow members and the Foreign Agricultural Service, the USDA and the Secretary of Agriculture,' said Mr Moffitt. 'The USAEDC serves an important role in communicating with government decision-makers about key market development programmes, including the Market Access Programme, and how vital they are to the success of American agriculture.'

The Market Access Programme encourages the development, maintenance and expansion of commercial export markets for agricultural commodities, with the programme's US$200m budget financing activities such as consumer promotions, market research, technical assistance and trade servicing.
