The results of a new online survey conducted by the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) and the United Fresh Produce Association have been released this week, detailing the industry's reaction to the Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI).

According to a news release, the survey took in the opinions of over 260 industry members selling in the US, and was designed to evaluate the adoption of the PTI and identify additional support needs for companies doing business in the country.

Based on 263 responses, the survey found that the awareness of the PTI is high, with over 80 per cent of companies recognising the initiative, while around 70 per cent of respondents said that they were working towards implementation.

However, the report found that retailers are generally lagging behind in adopting PTI, while the opinion is that the main barrier to implementation is a belief that the initiative is cost prohibitive.
