Food exports from Mexico to the EU hit US$733.9m (€547m) through the opening nine months of 2011, representing growth of 30 per cent year-on-year, according to new figures released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development and Fishing (SAGARPA)and reported by Fresh Fruit Portal.
Fresh produce was among the strongest export category, with products such as strawberries, lemons, onions and other fruits and vegetables among the top sellers.
SAGARPA attributed the increased sales activity with Europe to promotional programmes such as the Mexica Fruit Fare Attraction, held in Madrid in November, which generated sales of US$6.14m (€12m).
France, Germany, Italy and Spain were among the leading importers of Mexican food products between January and September, Fresh Fruit Portal noted.
