Mexican retail organisation ANTAD has reported a fall in sales at its member retailers of 3.3 per cent during March.
The sales, recorded at stores that had been open for at least 12 months, were hit by fewer days in the month and a difference in when the Easter holidays fell, according to ANTAD.
The fall represented the worst month of the year so far, with same-store sales increasing by 1.9 per cent in January and then falling 1.4 per cent in February, Reuters said.
ANTAD members include leading supermarket chains Wal-Mart de Mexico and Soriana amongst others.
