Mexican avocado exports rose by 29 per cent for the first six months of 2014 compared to the year-earlier period to US$794m. Figures released by the Mexican government showed sendings between January and June reached 353,000 tonnes, with important increases registered across all the main export markets.
Exports to China registered the biggest increase (+724 per cent), reaching US$2.97m, while shipments to the Netherlands tripled to US$647,000. The US, Mexico’s biggest market, absorbed 31 per cent more avocados than in the first half of 2013, with shipments totalling US$651m.
Sendings to Japan also grew strongly, rising 29 per cent to US61.7m, while exports to Canada increased by 33 per cent to US$40.6m.
