German retailer Metro Group is launching its '1 plus 4' nutritional label, which it is set to roll out across its complete own-brand domestic range.
The front-of-pack label, which were introduced by the German government in 2010, demonstrates information such as calories – representing the '1' – and four other nutrients, fat saturates, sugar and salt, just-food reported.
'Our customers are increasingly asking for more information about food and its ingredients,' said CEO Eckhard Cordes. 'They want to know how much fat and sugar is contained in their products. We therefore decided to further develop the nutritional food labelling of all own brands.
'This way, we want to create greater transparency for consumers in the food sector and enable them to more easily pay attention to a balanced and healthy diet,' he added.
