MESH arils

Israeli fresh-convenience producer MESH Fresh-Cut Produce, a sister company of Shimoni Bros Orchards, has made great strides over the past year in switching from airfreight to seafreight.

Until last season, MESH, which is a major supplier of items like prepackaged pomegranate arils to Israeli exporter Agrexco, was transporting its products exclusively by air. Now, seafreight reigns supreme.

“Airfreight may have taken only 48 hours, but it was expensive, less environmentally friendly and unstable temperature-wise,” the company’s Omri Shimoni said. “And temperature is the key for fresh-cut fruit.”

The company serves almost the whole of Europe, including the Netherlands, Scandinavia and the UK.

“We have experienced a few problems in the UK with low prices, but using seafreight allows us to compete on price,” explained Mr Shimoni.
