MelaPiu

Italian apple consortium MelaPiù, which markets Fuji apples grown in the region around Ferrara, says it has enjoyed a positive start to the season and that its commercial prospects for the coming year are strong.

According to the group's president Gianmauro Bergamini, total production of MelaPiù-branded Fuji apples will reach 20,000 tonnes in 2009/10, slightly down on last season's figure.

'The intrinsic quality of the apples has proven to be at an excellent level, even though unfavourable weather conditions have meant colouring has not been particularly high,' he told agribusiness website Agronotizie. 'From a commercial point of view, this year has started well and we are confident this can continue until the end of the season.'

The founding members of the MelaPiù consortium were Afe (Gruppo Salvi), Tagliani Vivai, Coft (Gruppo Mazzoni), Coop Estesa and Cpoc.

Currently, the consortium is made up of the following members: Afe, Apo Conerpo, Cico, CoFruTa, Patfrut, Minguzzi and Pempacorer.
