Hans-Jurgen Kirsch Globus

Hans-Jürgen Kirsch, category director of fresh produce, flowers and ornamentals at German retailer Globus

European Vegetable Strategies, the region's first ever conference and networking event dedicated to the fresh vegetable business, is attracting a number of leading European retailers to Brussels on 4-5 June.

Key players such as Tesco and Asda from the UK, Globus, Edeka Rhein-Ruhr, DOEGO (Rewe West) and Wasgau from Germany, and Belgium’s Delhaize, will be represented at the event.

Indeed, the first main session of the day – ‘Going for growth in fresh vegetables’ – will be led by speaker Hans-Jürgen Kirsch (pictured), category director of fresh produce, flowers and ornamentals at Globus, the €5bn German food retailer. With Globus renowned for its focus on quality and service, Kirsch is well-placed to discuss with delegates the opportunities to grow sales of fresh vegetables and salads, at a time when shoppers want something new and at a price they can afford.

European Vegetable Strategies has been organised by Eurofruit, Fruchthandel and Fresh Produce Journal in response to a growing need for ideas, information and insight within the European vegetable sector.

Programme highlights include:

• Innovation - new ideas to boost sales
• Consumption in Europe - figures, trends, facts
• The vegetable market in Europe - challenges and opportunities
• Tomatoes – varieties, presentation, packaging
• Convenience – potential for growth
• New media – which channels work best?
