Medfel 2015

Next year’s Medfel exhibition, which takes place in the southern French town of Perpignan at the end of April and seeks to provide a central meeting point for fresh produce companies in the Mediterranean region, will place salads in the spotlight, according to organisers Sud de France Développement and the Languedoc-Roussillon Region.

Medfel is the largest fruit and vegetables event in France. With the union of the Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées regions, this eighth edition will place in the second most important agricultural region in the country in terms of surface area, number of farms and jobs.

The new region, which will be created on 1 January 2016, will also be France’s top producer of stonefruit (49 per cent), melons (41 per cent) and endives (34 per cent), and number two for tomatoes (10 per cent).

Medfel creates a bridge between the two shores of the Mediterranean, facilitating the development of business partnerships and discussions on the challenges facing the sector, organising visits to production sites and providing forecasts on the stonefruit harvest.

The 2015 event hosted 240 exhibitors and welcomed 5,855 visitors, an annual increase of 10 per cent. It also featured the first Medfel Tech, which will return next year to unite professionals from upstream in the production process.
