McDonald’s France last week signed a three-year contract with its traditional supplier Crudi-Florette France Restauration and the vegetable co-operative Océane to supply the restaurant chain with 5,700 tonnes of tomatoes a year at a fixed price.
The volume accounts for around 70 per cent of McDonald's France's annual tomato requirements.
The contract, the first of its kind in the sector, will allow the companies to strengthen their collaboration by increasing visibility over the long term.
Agrial Group, of which salad specialist Florette is a part, acquired the French and Spanish operations of Bakkavör earlier in the year, including its Crudi subsidiary.
In an interview in the May issue of Eurofruit, Florette president Louis-Marie Le Coutour revealed that one of the key reasons behind the acquisition of Bakkavör was the latter's relationship with McDonald's, as well as Florette's desire to penetrate the foodservice sector.
