Iberian multimodal transport provider MacAndrews has announced the launch of a new door-to-door product using a Roll-On Roll-Off (roro) service between Bilbao in Spain and Poole in the UK.
The new service, called Macpak, provides a door-to-door transit time of four days between Spain and the UK, which the group says opens up more opportunities for fresh produce exporters in Murcia, Valencia and Almeria.
The new service operates with two roro sailings a week from Bilbao to Poole departing every Monday and Thursday, arriving at Poole every Tuesday and Saturday respectively.
Macpak’s service is an enhancement to MacAndrews seven multimodal lolo (Lift-On Lift-Off) departures per week from Bilbao connecting Spain with the UK, Eire, NWC, Scandinavia, Baltic States, Finland and Russia.
According to the group, the new service provides customers a reduction in their carbon footprint between, for example, Murcia and Birmingham of 4.5 tonnes of CO2 by avoiding overland trucking through France.
“We are pleased to announce this new product between the Port of Bilbao and the Port of Poole,' said Geoffrey Smith, CEO of MacAndrews. 'Both ports’ excellent infrastructure and proximity to important markets make them the perfect choice for our business and we are very much looking forward to growing this business activity to enhance frequency as we continue to diversify, grow and increase our market presence.’’
