Univeg FL 2015

Leading Belgian supplier Univeg has revealed its overarching theme for Fruit Logistica: “Sowing the seed for a healthier future”, a reference to the need to boost efficiency to feed a rising population, and Univeg’s central role in achieving this goal.

“Operating in a world with limited natural resources to feed an ever-growing population, the desire to continually improve standards and performance can never be lost,” said head of corporate communications Nancy Goovaerts. “Univeg will achieve its aim of ‘sowing the seed for a healthier future’ by continuing to create greater efficiencies and to promote sustainability every step along the way.”

Over the last 25 years, Univeg has built a reputation for being its customers’ direct connection to the field. As a vertically integrated fruit and vegetables company operating globally, Univeg benefits greatly from its ability to supply consistently first-rate products through its unrivalled grower network and first-class service provision teams. Thanks to a network of more than 40 companies spread across five continents, the company managed to sell more than 2m tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables in 2014.

Univeg has become even stronger since its merger with Greenyard Foods last June. Greenyard Foods, with an annual turnover of almost €4bn and a team of 8,150 people, operates in 26 countries around the world.“The company’s vision is to make lives healthier with easy, fast and pleasurable fruits and vegetables, while fostering nature,” said Goovaerts. “Within the group, its wide portfolio of tasty, healthy and convenient products is now available in every popular format – fresh and prepared.”

Greenyard Foods CEO Marleen Vaesen commented: “We care about each and every one of our stakeholders. About our employees, their well-being, the environment in which they work and the communities around them.We believe in making the lives of our supply partners better too; every partner benefits from our commitment to sustainable production and sourcing methods. We have good relationships with our customers, and continue to try hard to discover ways we can work with them to optimise the experience of their own customers. Everything we do has the needs of the end consumer in mind.

“Many of the initiatives we are involved in are holistic in their nature. By making our products affordable and accessible to as many people as possible, we believe that we will improve the health of millions, if not billions, of people.”

As part of Univeg’s presence at Fruit Logistica, Peltracom, also part of Greenyard Foods, will have an integrated section on the booth. “Peltracom has been involved in the horticultural sector for 30 years and supplies more than a thousand varieties of growing media,” said Goovaerts. “These substrates are the root of healthy eating for literally millions of consumers every year.”
