The government in the Indian state of Gujarat has revealed thatproposals are in place to open an irradiation plant to facilitate mangoexports to markets such as the US.
The new plant, which will be located in the south of the state, willtake around 18 months to complete, a Gujarat Agro IndustriesCorporation official told local press.
'We are planning to set up an irradiation plant in South Gujarat tofacilitate the export of mangoes from the state,' said state principalsecretary for agriculture and cooperation PN Roy Choudhary at aseminar. 'At present, only Nashik in Maharashtra has the approvedirradiation plant facility.'
