Mango exports to the US market fell by 16 per cent last week to 2.2m cartons compared with the year-earlier period, according to the US National Mango Board (NMB).
NMB said Mexico – the largest mango exporter to the US – sent approximately 1.6m cartons last week, representing 19 per cent less than the previous week.
Guatemala, meanwhile, shipped just over 426,000 cartons to the US, while Nicaragua exported around 147,000 cartons and Haiti around 31,000 cartons.
Mexico is estimated to export 1.9m cartons and 1.4m cartons this week and next week respectively, according to NMB, with full season forecast of 50m cartons.
In comparison, Guatemala and Nicaragua are forecast to send approximately 4m cartons and 900,000 cartons to the US during their seasons which are due to end in mid-May.
Haiti, meanwhile, is expected to supply approximately 2m (4.5kg) cartons, with high volume on offer between mid May and mid June.
Average weekly prices for Mexican Ataulfo mangoes at the Texas and Nogales entry ports fell by 1.9 per cent in the week ended 4 April compared with the same period last year.
Haden and Tommy Atkins prices in Texas and Nogales, meanwhile, remained relatively stable during the same week.
