In the US, the National Mango Board (NMB) held a Ripe/Ready to Eat Mangoes Workshop on 14 November 2011 to inform their board members about the benefits of creating and implementing a ripening programme.

Marketers and ripening specialists Dennis Kihlstadius, Dave Howald, Gary Campisi and Michael Chirico were invited to the meeting to share and discuss their experience, success and expertise on the process and impact of fruit ripening.

The Ripe/Ready to Eat Mangoes initiative is designed to provide US consumers with better quality mangoes that are ready for consumption when purchased at retail.

The NMB welcomed valuable perspectives from all levels of the supply chain at the workshop, with William Watson, executive director of the NMB, noting: 'This programme could change the mango industry, but for the betterment of the product consumers are buying every day.'
