Citrus production in the Spanish province of Málaga has fallen significantly this season compared with the 2009 campaign, with orange volumes down by 20 per cent and lemon output 15 per cent lower.
According to a figures from the Association of Young Farmers (Asaja) Málaga, total citrus production in the province reached 168,000 tonnes over some 10,000ha.
More positively, the association said that prices during the campaign had been good, with the many growers recording average returns “not seen since 2003”.
