Container shipping company Maersk Kanoo UAE has signed an agreement with DP World’strade and logistics hub,Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza),to launch its first Warehousing & Distribution facility in the UAE, according to a report from Gulf News.
The agreement was reportedly signed in Dubai by Christopher Cook, managing director of Maersk UAE, and Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and managing director of DP World – UAE Region & Jafza.
The 10,000m2facility, to be located in the Jafza in Dubai, is part of Maersk's effort to build an integrated solution, giving customers 'single-window access to multiple logistics requirements'.
The facility's 80,000m3 storage capacity is also intended for goods flowing in and out of other countries in the Middle East region, for which Dubai serves as a gateway to the rest of the world.
“Ourinfrastructure combined with proximity to different operations and businesses lays the right foundation for a setup that Maersk has envisaged for its growth ambitions in the UAE,” Abdulla Bin Damithan told Gulf News.
The facility's proximity to Al Maktoum Airport reportedly allows it to serve customers that require air cross-docking, as well as those moving less-than-container load (LCL) cargo.
According to the company, the facility will be powered by a warehouse management system that utilises modern technologies and digital solutions for efficient inventory management.
