Maersk has announced that its chief financial officer (CFO) Søren Thørup Sørenson has decided to resign from his role, effective on 31 May 2009, for personal reasons.
Mr Sørenson joined the Danish logistics giant as CFO in July 2006, and has 'performed immaculately' in his role, according to group chief executive officer Nils Smedegaard Andersen.
'After almost three years as group CFP with A.P. Møller-Maersk, I have to realise that, for some time, the heavy workload has been damaging my health,' said Mr Sørenson. 'I have therefore decided to leave my position and the group. The timing seems right after the annual report and the Q1 announcement.'
Mr Andersen added that the group would make short-term alterations to cover the loss of Mr Sørenson for the time being.
'We will make temporary, internal changes to the organisation in order to cover Søren Thorup Sørenson's areas of responsibility, until we find a permanent solution,' he said.
