Italian minister of agriculture Saverio Romano officially opened the 28th edition of international fresh produce trade fair Macfrut in Cesena, Italy, on Tuesday 5 October.

With more than 750 exhibitors and around 80 foreign delegations set to visit during the course of the three-day show, Macfrut 2011 is one of the key meeting points for business in the Mediterranean, bringing together retailers, importers, traders and suppliers as well as a sizeable delegation of technology, packaging and other service providers.

At this year's event, over 30 conventions and seminars held by fair organiser Cesena Fiera are due to cover a number of important themes including the development of the fresh convenience sector, the global crisis and how to confront a reduction in consumption levels, and communication methods within the fresh produce grocery trade.
