The Port of Los Angeles has released its January 2014 cargo results, with volumes increasing 2.5 per cent compared with the same month last year.
According to the port uthority, the increase was due in part to shippers moving cargo in advance of the Chinese New Year, which this year fell on 31 January.
Container imports increased 6.7 per cent, from 337,428 TEUs in January 2013 to 360,037 TEUs in January 2014.
Combined, total loaded imports and exports for January increased 5.1 per cent, from 496,686 TEUs in January 2013to 521,975 TEUs.
