Lorifruit, a cooperative based in Loriol-sur-Drôme in southeastern France and a member of French marketing group Fruits Union, is continuing the development and segmentation of its kiwifruit offering with the production of French yellow kiwifruit Dori, according to Réussir Fruits Et Légumes.
The variety was developed by Italian company Summerfruit and is recognised for its intense yellow colour, as well as its sweet, juicy and slightly tart flavour.
The variety forms part of a selective distribution network to be sold in France exclusively by Summerkiwi France.
The first producers signed production contracts in the presence of Giampaolo Dalpane, president of Summerfruit, and Fabien Bec, representing François Lafitte, president of French marketer Sofruileg.
With several plantings already completed, the first fruits are expected to be marketed in September.
Lorifruit is the first packer to be approved in the development of this new segment. Dori will complete Lorifruit’s kiwifruit range, which already includes the green Hayward kiwifruit, early summer kiwifruit and Nergi kiwiberries.
