Dutch product-testing and consumer campaigning group Consumentenbond has named Lidl as the Netherlands' best retailer when it comes to the quality-price ratio of its fresh fruit and vegetables.
The organisation, which also publishes a bi-monthly magazine, revealed that the discount retailer came top of a recent survey it carried out in conjunction with research firm GfK.
Lidl itself took out a full-page advertisement in the 16 July edition of eading Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf to raise awareness of the accolade.
The supermarket ratings were based on consumer feedback and were awarded on the basis of retail operations in the Dutch market during 2011/12.
Other chains surveyed aside from Lidl included Albert Heijn, Aldi, C1000, Dirk van den Broek, Jumbo and Plus.
The report put together a sample basket of goods from each retailer and found Aldi to be the cheapest, followed by Lidl and Dirk van den Broek, with Albert Heijn emerging as the most expensive.
